Childbirth, pregnancy, age and menopause can all take a toll on a woman’s body, most often affecting the labia or vagina. If you’re looking to address the appearance or functionality of your intimate area, you’ve come to the right place. Based on your specific needs and goals, you may benefit from labiaplasty or vaginoplasty to dramatically improve your quality of life. Both procedures offered at Aguirre Specialty Care provide effective, long-lasting relief from a range of symptoms.

But which treatment is right for you? Let’s find out as we look at the key differences between these two popular surgical solutions for vaginal rejuvenation:

Area of focus

Labiaplasty
Labiaplasty focuses on improving the appearance as well as the functionality of a woman’s labia. For women who have excess labial skin, labiaplasty can help alter the shape and/or size of the labia majora (outer lips) and/or the labia minora (inner lips) to restore comfort and confidence and provide long-lasting satisfaction.
Vaginoplasty
Vaginoplasty, on the other hand, focuses on tightening the vagina by restoring and reconstructing the damaged muscles and tissues and their supporting structures. For women who want to recover a youthful vagina following childbirth or the effects of aging, this procedure can help correct vaginal muscle tone, vaginal appearance and improve sexual gratification for both partners.

Area of concern

Labiaplasty
Ideal candidates for labiaplasty include women who are bothered by the appearance of their labia and those who frequently experience discomfort such as chafing when wearing tight-fitting clothing or pain during intercourse. Changes to the appearance of your labia can be brought on by the natural aging process, childbirth or from simply being born with excess skin.
Vaginoplasty
You may be suited for vaginoplasty if you experience vaginal looseness, when you feel like your vagina is stretched out or too wide. This extremely common condition can lead to a loss of vaginal sensation during vaginal intercourse for both you or your partner, or difficulty keeping tampons in position. During your consultation, we will create a personally tailored treatment plan that works for your unique needs.

Procedure and downtime

Labiaplasty
In an approximately 90-minute procedure, Dr. Aguirre uses the Ellman Surgitron Radio Frequency device to carefully reduce excess labial skin. Using delicate, fully absorbable sutures, Dr. Aguirre then redefines labial edges and other tissue to produce natural-looking and balanced results. After recovering in our post-operative room, you are free to return home that same day.
Vaginoplasty
Laser vaginal rejuvenation is a one-hour outpatient procedure designed to restore and reconstruct damaged vaginal muscles and tissues thus enhancing vaginal muscle tone, strength and control. After your vaginoplasty, you should expect about four to six weeks of downtime and mild discomfort.

If desired, labiaplasty can be performed in conjunction with vaginoplasty, combining reduction and beautification of the labia with rejuvenation and tightening of the vagina. Depending on your symptoms, needs and goals, we will determine whether you’d benefit from this combination surgery during your personal consultation.
